Kleine Mentchalech - Shalom Aleichem's Stories - The 3 Shmulik's
Various Artists

Also available in: Music
 Produced by: Israel Music
Description: Shalom Aleichem, born in 1859 in the Ukraine, was a pseudonym for Shalom Rabinovitz, a famous author and one of the founders of modern Yiddish literature. While Mendele Mocher Sfarim was known as the grandfather ("zeide") of Yiddish literatire, Shalom Aleichem was known as its grandchild ("einikel"). Shalom Aleichem's first stories were written in Hebrew. Later, he started to write short stories in Yiddish. Thereafter, he continued to write short stories, novels and children's stories, filled with love and humor about Jewish life in the small shtetls, as well as in larger towns. In "Kleine Mentshelech," Shalom Aleichem did not depict extraordinary figures. Instead, his heroes were simple Jews with their natural wit and charm, love and existential sense of humor, a mixture of laughter and tears. This production by "Die Drie Shmuliks" (the 3 Shmuliks) - Shmuel Rodanski, Shmuel Segal and Shmuel Atzmon retell some of Shalom Aleichem's favorite stories. Stories included: Kasrilevke Restaurants, A Slow Train, The Competitors, A Question of Luck. (VHS Video & DVD: 85 minutes, Yiddish with English Subtitles. Available on CD, Cassette or DVD.
