When a friend at the University of Pennsylvania asked Jon Perl to find a band to play at a local Shabbaton, Perl knew that he could pull it off. What he didn't realize was that he was about to launch what is now one of the biggest acts in Jewish music: Blue Fringe. Blue Fringe plays a diverse array of music, mixing original material with popular Jewish and secular songs. This allows them to appeal to all audiences from high schools, colleges, summer camps, synagogues, and even New York City theaters. It is this aspect that makes Blue Fringe so unique.
Comprised of four Yeshiva University students, the band has created a new twist on Jewish music. With influences ranging from Diaspora Yeshiva Band to John Mayer, to Victor Wooten, the band has developed a modern rock/pop sound of its own. With original Jewish songs, both in English and Hebrew, the band weaves Jewish themes into popular music.
